今日、レコード会社の営業の人と
カオマイルドのドラムの原田君と九十九里浜に行ってきた。
8月3日に発売されるシングル「九十九里浜」のことを、
題名にもなっている九十九里浜近辺の方々になるべく知ってもらうため、
チラシを配ったり、海水浴場で僕らのCDを流してもらえるか交渉する旅路。
なにせ初めての経験で右も左もわからず、
きっと断られまくるんだろうな・・・、という
あきらめ顔で向かったその先で出会ったものは、
想像以上に暖かい人情であった。
最初に向かった山武市役所では、
日曜日にもかかわらず、真摯な態度で対応してくれた役所の方々。
ここではどうすれば海水浴場でCDを流してもらえるか、
その仕組みを教えてもらえた。
その足で向かった本須賀海水浴場。
ここは僕が毎年とても楽しませてもらっている海水浴場だ。
自分的に行きつけの海の家もある。
でもそんなことはCDを流してもらえるかどうかは別問題だし、
第一、一海水浴客でしかない僕を覚えてくれてはいないだろう。
そんなひねくれた心で交渉を開始したのだが、
「お！お兄ちゃん久しぶり！元気だったかい？」
「このCDもちろん流すし応援するよ！がんばって！」
と、真夏の太陽のようなとびきりの笑顔で話してくれた海の家のお兄さん。
爽やかな威圧感を押し出しつつ快くCDをもらってくれた
ムキムキのライフセーバーの方々。
早くも砂浜に「ビーチはリッチな～・・・」とカオマイルドサウンドが流れ、
またひとつ人の暖かさに触れさせてもらった。
続いて九十九里町の４件のサーフショップ。
どのお店の方も、飛び込みで訪問したにもかかわらず
心暖まる対応に涙が出そうになった。
その中のお店の一つ「Warm Up」での出来事は一生忘れない。
訪れたついでにボディボードのワックスを買おうとしたときの、
「CDくれたからワックスあげるよ！」
との嬉しすぎる一言。
ついついお言葉に甘えて、いただいてきてしまった。
正直まだ僕らのCDにはワックス一個分の価値も無いけれど、
あのときCD受け取ってよかったと思ってもらえるようにがんばろうと心に誓った。
LOVE&PEACEってこういうことなのかな。
海って素晴らしい。
サーフショップの皆さん、本当にありがとう。
これがいただいたボディボに塗るワックス。
その後は昼食でハマグリを食べ
ちょっと内陸へ移動してボーリング場、美容室、K'sデンキ、１００満ボルト、オートバックスを回り、
どのお店でもこの上ないレスポンスをいただけた。
みなさん、心の底から感謝します！
特に美容室のスタッフと方々とお客さん、
いきなりドレッドが二人も入店して、さぞかし驚かれたでしょう。
ホントすいません。
そんな中、素敵な笑顔でCDとチラシ受け取ってくださりありがとうございました。
そんなこんなでドキドキの九十九里行脚ではあったが、
人々の優しさに支えられ無事終えることが出来た。
しかし柏に帰ってきてからもまだまだ嬉しい出来事が続く。
営業の人がお腹空いたなぁと言うので、
「ならば柏で一番旨いラーメン屋に連れて行きますよ！」
と言うことで向かった家系ラーメン「王道家」
このお店の大将は僕が行くたびに
「CD楽しみにしてるよ！」
と声をかけてくれる。
今日も同じように話しかけてくれたので、
忙しいところ悪いな・・・、と思いつつもチラシを受け取ってもらった。
そうしたらなんと、
「おい！チラシ用の箱作れ！」
「スタッフ募集の紙はがしていいからチラシ一枚張っておいて！」
と、従業員の方に指令が飛んだ。
箱作ってもらえるのめちゃくちゃ嬉しいけど従業員のみなさん忙しいのに悪いし、
スタッフ募集の紙はがしちゃっていいんですか!?
と申し訳なく思いつつも、またお言葉に甘えてしまった。
マジで心にしみます。
きっとこのコクのある暖かいスープは、
大将の人情で出来ているんだな、としみじみ感じた。
今日一日を終えて感じたことは、
カオマイルドは本当に人に恵まれたバンドだなということ。
今までもそう感じる出来事は何度かあったものの、
今日ほど胸が熱くなった日はない。
みんなの期待と応援に応えることができるだろうか？
いや、応えなければならない。
まずはそれが今僕らに出来る唯一の恩返しなのだから。
心地よいプレッシャーに浸かりながら、
僕の中で何かスイッチが切り替わった。
長々と書いてみたが、最後に、、
今まで僕の人生に関わってくれた全ての人へ、
今、僕の近くにいる人もそうじゃない人へも。
「ありがとう」
そしてこれからも一緒に色んな音を奏でていくエネルギーを僕に与えてください。
そんなことを言いたくなった一日だった。
